Klaipeda (162.4 thousand. Pop.) – One of the oldest cities in Lithuania and its only port. Today Klaipeda is distinguished from other cities distinctive architecture terms, the most important – Fachwerk buildings.
Klaipėda has nice marine tradition since 1934 year, every last weekend of July there is the Sea Festival, which appears in many artistic groups, craft fairs happening. The festival attracts many participants and guests not only from Lithuania but also from abroad. The Kopgalis Fort complex, built in the 19th century. These unique structures also has an impressive Maritime Museum and Aquarium. The museum Dolphinarium prepared for training dolphins and California sea lions. Another interesting museum activities – dolphin therapy for children with disabilities.

History of Klaipeda
Klaipeda has long been an important commercial center: as early as the thirteenth century., Crossed the Baltic Sea, it was visited by the North and West sides merchants. Klaipeda founding date is considered in 1252. August 1 st., and in 1257 year granted the city of Lübeck (city) law.
Klaipeda, until 1920 year belonged to Germany, was a purely German city and called Memel. Since 1923 year city belongs to Lithuania.
